For controlling rabies in Nias, today, March 8, 2010, Ministry of Health for second times has sent a team by brought 75 vaccines of rabies anti for human and also sent counseling guidelines (KIE). By sending this team, it hopes that rabies in Nias can be controlled immediately. It is said by DG of Disease Control and Environmental Health (P2PL) of Ministry of Health, Prof. Dr. Tjandra Yoga Aditama to control rabies in Nias.
According to Prof. Tjandra, The first team of Ministry of Health arrived in Nias on February 16 by brought 50 vaccines. The team task is helping local government at place in controlling rabies, one of them is do training and coordinating with local government at place.
Besides that, on Sunday, March 7, 2010 also held a meeting to discuss a controlling progress in Nias, led by DG of DC&EH, Prof. Dr. Tjandra Yoga Aditama. The meeting attended by special staff of Ministry of Health from Health Development and Acceleration from DG of Poultry of Ministry of Agriculture and some officials from Indonesian WHO Representative.
In the meeting, it was decided that Ministry of Health send the team by brought vaccines and some guidelines material. And also it discussed about coordination with DG of Poultry of Ministry of Agriculture in controlling diseases on the source (transmitted animal) and WHO support for helping vaccines for human. Rabies cases in Nias have occurred since November 2009 and cause 43 peoples infected by rabies transmitted animal bites.
On February 12, based on examination on animal, it was found that rabies positive on dog. On February 21, DG of Poultry of Ministry of Agriculture has sent a team by brought 50.000 dosage of vaccine for animal to Medan, South Sumatera. From that number, 10.000 vaccines have been used for animal vaccination in Nias. As we know, Nias consists of 5 district/municipality, they are Nias, West Nias, South Nias, North Nias and Gunung Sitoli.
